An IB Project
A note on the recent tragedy at the University of Arizona
On the first weekend of November, days before this project launched, three University of Arizona undergraduates were killed while crossing the street adjacent to campus. We are shocked and saddened. We wish to honor their memories and offer our deepest condolences to their families and loved ones.
This project has been planned many months in before this tragedy occurred, but we paused and reflected, with Eller faculty and administration, on whether to continue it at this sensitive time. We did not want to further traumatize students who had known and loved the three who were lost.
After many discussions and much soul searching, the faculty recommended that we continue the project. We pledge to be cautious, sensitive, and respectful in its implementation. We hope that participation will give students an opportunity to feel that they are doing something positive to honor the memory of their peers who were lost. The need for change could not be more apparent.
